As winner of the A Venue/Gold Coast City Council EP production program package, Julia Rose Cottone is currently recording (with band) her 4 track EP with producer Guy Cooper @ Serotonin Productions. The EP will be released early 2011.
The EP’s stunningly haunting original folk ballades bring to life tales of Australian bush and country. Julia Rose’s soaring vocals and rhythmic guitar lines, coupled with tales of being on the road and stories of love, blend beautifully. Julia takes you on a lyrical, rhythmical and melodic journey, drawing from the audience a feeling of familiarity that digs deep into the soul and stirs the senses. The EP has guest appearances from Felicity Lawless (guitar), Sal Kimber (banjo), CC the Cat (mandolin) Louise Cottone (violin), and Anders Cassidy (drums). The EP flaunts elements of flamenco guitar, classical violin, and country banjo all mixed in to create the Julia Rose sound.
Julia Rose has played shows and residencies up and down the East Coast of Australia including shows with CC the Cat, the Hussy Hicks and Sal Kimber (Victorian Female Country Vocalist Winner 2010), who also features on Banjo in the EP. Julia also performed in Western Australia and in December 2007, was the winner of Broome's 'ROEY IDOL' and the grand prize of $5000. Julia is also the bass player and front woman of Gold Coast reggae/funk band Anarchist Duck and Bertha Control. Julia has spent the last 10 years touring extensively around Australia and overseas in various bands.
BETH N BEN
Beth’n’Ben’s songwriting spans from folk, roots, and soul ballads to upbeat Jazz, Rock, and Reggae tunes. After doing the solo thing and playing in other bands around Canberra for six years the duo teamed up in mid 2009, and have had a ball with new collaboration playing around Canberra, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and Melbourne. Their fusion of styles, and tongue in cheek writing style consistently turn heads and get the crowd moving wherever they go.
Early recordings of Beth n Ben’s track ‘Little Lady’ were up on the Triple J Unearthed for six weeks. During this time it stayed in the top 20 of the roots chart, spent five weeks in the top 10, and two weeks at #1. The track has been taken down off the Unearthed site since the duo was signed to Indie label, Manga Republic and went into the studio with Phil Rigger at Monstereo Productions to record their debut EP, Boarding Pass which was released through Green Media on the October 15th 2010.
