THE SISTERHOOD

Just who are The Sisterhood? We asked them and this is what they said:

"We are five extremely attractive females who started singing together in 2006 because we found jazz instrumentalists intimidating. We started to write and arrange music together and soon became known as the sisterhood. We read feminist literature and weekly meet to cast spells on those of the opposite sex... we're kind of a big deal. "

So there you have it, The Sisterhood blending in at The Phoenix.

JOE OPPENHEIMER

Joe Oppenheimer is being brought up everywhere – folks wake humming his melodies, dinner-table and venue-crowd talk alike on his topic. His debut EP, Time Ticks A Way, was released June 2010 with heaps of talented Canberra musicians and artists wholeheartedly engaging with its production. His songs are easy to learn and difficult to master, yielding new tales and tones with every listen. Sing along with these sweet songs when and wherever you can, and you’ll be proud to say you had the first recording of a household name.

LORETTA D'URSO

Come see Loretta D'Urso perform in front of her home crowd at The Phoenix mixing a blend of Pop & Roots with influences ranging from Conor Oberst and Dallas Green to Damien Rice.

MUDPIE PRINCESS

'Mudpie Princess' is an all female indie rock band based out of Canberra, Australia. With an impressive and ever growing range of original tunes brimming with rock, punk and pop influence, Mudpie Princess are exploding onto the music scene and relishing every moment. Come to one show and you, like the rest of the ever growing fan base, will be captured by the bands amazing hooks and intriguing lyrics.

Kelly Butcher on vocals is a commanding front woman. With seemingly endless energy and theatrical stage play, Kelly lifts you to a new dimension with every song. Whether it be rage, despair, lunacy or make-believe, its an unforgettable ride. Kelly is supported vocally by her sister, Louise.

With many years of singing together under there belts, these women never fail to make the air hum with there complex and practiced harmonies. Jess McNeil on guitar is a melody master. Her impressive lead breaks and inventive compositions make every Mudpie Princess song stand in a league of its own. Jess works the guitar as though she was born with it in her hands making Mudpie Princess's youngest member a muso to reckon with. The rhythm section of Mudpie Princess is a force in itself.

Laying down the groove on the bass is Wendy Martin. Wendy has been performing in a variety of bands in Canberra for many years, and her experience and ease on stage are apparent. She produces exciting baselines and is always front and centre on stage working the crowd and firing up the band. Way up the back of stage there you'll see the furious work of Laura Frame on the drums. Laura is also an experienced musician (ex. GiLF) and is happiest giving the skins a thrashing.

Some history.... Mudpie Princess began it’s life in 2005 as Canberra’s very own all-girl rock and roots band, GiLF. The early folk/roots styling’s of the band were readily received and a loyal following of fans quickly developed. By early 2007, GiLF were reputed as phenomenal performers, had an extensive mailing list and bragged some impressive solo and support gigs in and around town. The line up of Mudpie Princess includes some members of GiLF with the exception of Mudpie freshies, Jess and Wendy.
